  • 29. Jan. 2020 Global Leader 1 (Day 4) Joint discussion with Hokkaido University Nitobe College
    In Wednesday, 29. January, the fourth day of the Global Leader 1 was held at the Science and Agricultural Building, Higashiyama Campus. This time we welcomed faculties and students from Hokkaido University Nitobe College, and had joint discussion with the Well-being Program. Theme of the discussion was "What and how can we cooperate each other to achieve "Well-being"". Student from Hokkaido University joined to each team and discussed their possibility of cooperation to achieve "Well-being". Before the discussion, each faculties from Hokkaido University Nitobe College and from the Well-being Program made short briefing about their program and its targets.
  • January 22, 2019 Global Leader 3 Day 4
    Dr. Aya OKADA (Professor, Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University)
    On January 22, 2020, the final lecture of Global Leaders 3 series was given by Dr. Aya Okada, a professor of Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University. The lecture was given on the title of “Education, Sanitation, and Well-being for Girls in South Asia”. Dr. Okada explained the current well-being situation of girls in South Asia based on her rich research experiences in the areas especially India. This topic aroused significant interest from the students who attended the lecture. Moreover, she introduced her own experiences working at UNICEF, and discussed how to develop career at the UN.

  • December 8 - 15, 2019 Overseas Training Program 1 (Vietnam)
    Overseas Training Program 1 to Vietnam has been held from December 8 – 15th, 2019. The group consisted of 5 students (2 from Health science, 2 from Medical, 1 from Bioagriculture). Students visited Bach Mai Hospital, WHO office, vegetable garden, orchard, pot flower garden, poultry farm, pig farm, milk gather station near from Hanoi. At the last day, students have made a final presentation about their findings on agriculture, education and health services at VNUA and discussed with faculties and students there.
  • December 4, 2019 Global Leaders 3 (Day 3)

    (Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations)
    On December 4, 2019, the third lecture of Global Leaders 3 series was given by Mr. Motohide Yoshikawa, Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, and Distinguished Professor, International Christian University, on the topic of “Sustainable Development Goals: What can WE do?” and “Legacies of Madam Sadako Ogata”. Mr. Yoshikawa discussed these topics based on his 42-years of experience as a diplomat. Therefore, these topics aroused significant interest from the students who attended the lecture.
  • November 28, 2019 Pre-fieldwork Presentation of Overseas Training Program 1
    On November 28th 2019, a pre-fieldwork presentation session for the 6th batch Well-being students Overseas training 1, was held in the Science and Agriculture building, room 329. Opening and closing remarks were given by Professor Hiroko Tsukamura (AGR) and Professor Yamauchi (AGR). Presentations were given by the 5 students going to the Vietnam in December 2019. Each student presented for 5 minutes about their interests what they hoped to achieve during their visit. After each presentation, audience members gave comments and asked questions.
  • 9. Nov. 2019 Cross-cultural Talk 2019 Part Ⅱ
    In 9. November, the second day of the Cross Cultural Talk has been held at the Daiko Campus, Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences. This year's main theme was "What is the "Well-being" for us ?", and students of each department made a team and had presentations according to the theme with their own academic knowledge. After the presentation they made groups with students of every departments and made discussion about the theme. Finally, the awards for the poster session at the first day were given and Prof. Okada from GSID made a closing remark.

  • November 6, 2019 Global Leaders 3 (Day 2)

    On November 6, 2019, the second lecture of the Global Leader 3 series was given by Dr. Suomi Sakai, a former UNICEF Principal Advisor, Ethics, under the title of "Leadership and Integrity" at the first meeting room of the Graduate School of International Development. The students were divided into four groups and discussed based on case studies. They actively participated in the discussion on "leadership" as well as "how to be a leader" throughout the lecture.

  • October 23, 2019 Overseas Training Program Seminar 1 Pre-fieldwork Seminar (OTP1 in Vietnam)
    Dr. Tran Thi Thiem (Vietnam National University of Agriculture)
    On October 23, 2019, the lecture of the Overseas Training Program Seminar 1 was given by Dr. Tran Thi Thiem, a Lecturer of Vietnam National University of Agriculture, under the title of " Vietnam on the development road ". The students discussed based on case studies. They actively participated in the discussion on "agricultural production, culture, economy, life and gender in Vietnam" throughout the lecture.
  • October 23, 2019 Global Leaders 3 (Day 1)
    Dr. Keiko Osaki-Tomita(President, Tokiwa University and Tokiwa Junior College)
    On October 23, 2019, the first lecture of the Global Leader 3 series was given by Dr. Keiko Osaki-Tmita, President of Tokiwa University and Tokiwa Junior College and a former assistant director, Demographic and Social Statistics Branch, United Nations, under the title of “Pursuing a career at the United Nations” at the auditorium of the Graduate School of International Development. Dr. Osaki-Tomita introduced career development at the United Nations with her own experiences such as challenges as a woman and as a Japanese. These topic aroused significant interest from the students who attended the lecture. At a final message of the lecture, Dr. Osaki-Tomita concluded to ask the students to find a subject which “sparks joy” and to be an expert, which will enhance the chances of life beyond gender and national borders.
  • 2. Oct. 2019 Cross-cultural Talk 2019 Part Ⅰ
    In 2. October, the first day of the Cross Cultural Talk has been held at the Noyori Conference Hall. This year's main theme was "What is the "Well-being" for us ?". Planning and management have all been conducted by all 2nd to 6th batch students. As the first day program, it started by the key note speech from Prof. Tsukamura, Program coordinator of the Well-being program. Afterwards ice-break session was managed by 3rd batch students. In the afternoon, posters made by 2nd batch students has been exhibited and discussed among students groups. Finally, a special lecture by Dr. Momoe Takeuchi (WHO country office Vietnam) has been held and had discussion about the topics such as SDGs, Well-being and roles of International organization between students and Dr. Takeuchi.   • 2. Oct. 2019 Enrollment Ceremony AY 2019
    The 2019 enrollment ceremony was held at the Noyori Conference Hall. The Well-being program welcomed 5 new students this year. Dr. Seiichi Matsuo, President of Nagoya University and Prof. Masahide Takahashi, Program manager both delivered speeches and Prof. Hiroko Tsukamura, Program coordinator, handed the enrollment certificates to each student. Representative of the new students gave speech about their aspiration in the program and current Well-being student gave welcome message to the new students.Photo Gallery

  • Sep. 8 - 15, 2019 Overseas Training Program 2 (Philippines)
    From Sep 8th to 15th, four students in 4th batch of Well-being Program and 3 faculties from the Graduate School of Medicine (Health Sciences), 1 faculty from the Graduate School of the Bioagricultural Sciences, and 1 faculty form De La Salle University visited Metro Manila and Laguna province in the Philippines. Students visited health facilities, Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, local farms and local NGO to understand challenges to achieve well-being in the Philippines. Students from the University of the Philippines (Manila & Los Banos) and De La Salle University had also joined to support our field activity and cooperated with the interview. For closing, students discussed what we learned from the overseas fieldwork with Nagoya University Alumni Association-Philippines.

  • Aug. 31 - Sep. 10, 2019 Overseas Training Program 2 (Timor-Leste)
    From August 31 to September 10, 5 Well-being students together with 3 faculties from the Graduate School of International Development visited Timor-Leste. Three students from National University of Timor-Leste, as a counter-part, also joined the training. The students were divided into two groups; education development and agriculture development. With the corporation of The Ministry of Education, Embassy of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and some of the international organizations such as UNDP, students visited elementary schools, rice farms in Manatuto district, coffee farms in Elmera district, and other related places to conduct survey and interviews. The groups made a final presentation about their findings and discussed the issues at National University of Timor-Leste.Photo Gallery
  • July 31, 2019 Pre-fieldwork Presentation of Overseas Training Program 2
    Pre-fieldwork presentation session for the 4th batch Well-being students Overseas training, was held on July 31th 2019 in the Science and Agriculture building, room 329. The session was attended by 9 Well-being faculty and 9 students. Opening remarks were given by Professor Hiroko Tsukamura and Professor Akira Yamauchi, and Designated Assistant Professor Nicola Skoulding moderated the session. Presentations were given firstly by the 4 students going to Timor-East and finally the 5 students going to the Philippines. Through this session, everyone was able to clarify the objectives and goals of the program.Photo Gallery
  • July 24, 2019 Global Leader 4 _2019 Day5

    Global Leader 4 lecture was given on July 24, 2019, by Dr. Ieda Nahoko, Livestock Development Officer at FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa located at Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Ieda's talk covered two major topics, Introduction to FAO, its goals and ways of support with an emphasis on animal health and production in Near East and North Africa, and Career development in international organizations with an emphasis on FAO.
    All of the presented facts were further supported by Dr. Ieda's personal experience in working for FAO and the situation she encountered in the field. It was an excellent first-hand insight into what it means to be a senior officer in an international organization.
    Each topic was followed by a Q&A section, where students got an opportunity to interact with Dr. Ieda and learn more on the details of her talk.
    After the lecture, students were allowed to have one-on-one consultations with Dr. Ieda on how to start and build their career in international organizations. The consultations included advice on the preparation of the application documents and passing the job interview.

    On July 8, 2019, the Special Seminar was given by Professor Arup Mitra from Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi University at the First Meeting Room of the Graduate School of International Development. The title of the lecture was “Growth, Health and Gender Imbalance: evidence from India”, and many students as well as facilities participated in this seminar.

    As a part of preparatory seminar for the overseas training program 2 (Timor-Leste), we invited Ms. Kuniko Sato, who have been in Timor-Leste for a long time as a staff of Japanese NGO and Embassy of Japan, to provide the lecture on Tetum which is the official language od Timor-Leste.

    As a part of preparatory seminar for the overseas training program 2 (Timor-Leste), we invited two lectures who have working experiences in Timor-Leste. Dr. Yuji Utsumi, Associate Professor in Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, explained in depth about "History and Culture of Timor-Leste". Mr. Yasuhiro Hirayama, Project Manager of CARE international, provided the lecture on "Women's Empowerment in Timor-Leste".   • May 15, 2019 Special Lecture for Overseas Training Program 2

    Lecture for the Overseas Training Program Seminar 2 was taken place in 15 May at the Graduate School of International Development. Ms. Kyoko Maekawa, Deputy Secretary General of “Mura no Mirai Mirai” which is one of Japanese NGO, provided the lecture on “ Meta-facilitation” which is one of the methods for research at rural areas in developing country. The students actively participate in the lecture by developing their own questioners and practicing interviews.
  • May 8, 2019 Overseas Training Program Seminar 2 (Timor-Leste)

    As a part of preparatory seminar for the overseas training program 2 (Timor-Leste), we invited Mr. Masafumi Nagaishi, the chief representative of JICA Timor-Leste. Mr. Nagaishi explained in great depth about " Overall of Development Assistances in Timor-Leste" through the TV system. After the lecturer, students asked many questions and the lively discussion followed thereafter.
  • April 10, 2019 Post-fieldwork Presentation of Overseas Training Program 1 & 2
    The Post-fieldwork Presentation (Overseas Training Program 1 and 2) for fieldwork in 2018 was held on Wednesday April 10th, 2019. Prof. Hiroko Tsukamura (AGR) gave opening remarks for the session. During the session, groups presented their findings, experiences and impressions from trips to Philippines for OTP1 and Vietnam and Malaysia for OTP2. Faculty and students actively asked questions about the findings from each trip and students received advice on the analysis of data that they collected.
