  • March 20, 2019 Program Completion Ceremony AY 2018
    In 20. March, the program completion ceremony was held at the Gender Research Library in Higashiyama Campus. Total 16 students of the first batch students have finished their 5-years' enrollment to the Well-being program. Dr. Masahide Takahashi, Program manager and Dr. Hiroko Tsukamura, Program coordinator have delivered the congratulatory speech and students who got Ph.D. degree have received their certification of completion. Afterwards the representative of the students made an address in reply and expressed their gratitude to the staffs and intention to the future. After the ceremony, both students and staffs had time for a pleasant talk.

  • 27, Jan. - 3. Feb. 2019 Overseas Training Program 2 (Malaysia)
    Overseas Training Program 2 to Malaysia has been held from 27. January to 3. February, 2019. The group consisted of 7 students, 2 from Dep. of Bio-Agriculture, 1 from Education and Human Development, 3 from GSID and 1 from Medicine. Faculties and students of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) coordinated the training. The delegation visited Tanjung Malim that the University locates, and moved to Cameron Highlands after short orientation there. They visited schools for Tamil and indigenous pupils, Health center and Hospitals. They also made interview to local indigenous group, Orang Asli. On the final day, students made presentation about their findings during the stay and had discussion and interaction with faculties and students at UPSI. Photo Gallery
  • January 20 - 27, 2019 Overseas Training Program 1 (Philippines)
    Overseas Training Program 1 to Philippine has been held from 20. to 27. January, 2019. The group consisted of 5 students, 2 from Dep. of Bio-Agriculture and 3 from Health Sciences. Faculties of the University of Philippine, College of Nursing (UPCN) supported the training. The students visited Philippine General Hospital, District V public health Center, Icasiaso Health Center, Maharlika West Central School Tagaytay city, Kanlungan sa ERMA, Hospicio de San Jose, Grumet farm, an individual farmer, WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, Salt Payatas, and Uniquease. The student also conducted health and nutritional workshop in the Kanlungan sa ERMA.Photo Gallery
  • January 11, 2019 Global Leader 1(Special Lecture)

    On Friday January 11th 2019, a Global Leader 1 (Special Lecture) was held at the IB building on Higashiyama campus. This was a special joint leadership seminar held by Leadership Development Program for Space Exploration and Research, the main organizer, and the Well-being program. Ms. Naoko Yamazaki, a female astronaut, gave a lecture entitled " Space Utilization and Women's Leadership in future Space Activities". Ms. Yamazaki discussed about the effects of space missions on local communities around space facilities and families of astronauts. She also discussed her training for her space mission, life at the International space station and what students should do if they wanted to have a career in the space industry. Afterwards Ms Yamazaki took questions from the audience and took photos with students.

  • January 9, 2019 Global Leader 3 Day 4
    Dr. Yuji UTSUMI (Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University)
    On January 9, 2019, the last lecture of Global Leaders 3 series was given by Dr. Yuji Utsumi, the associate professor of Graduate School of International Development, on the topic of “Working at the UN Field Office: UNESCO Activities and Career Planning”. For the first part of his lecture, Dr. Utsumi explained about the UN system. For the second part, he introduced with vivid stories about his own experiences such as working at UNICEF and UNESCO, and discussed how to develop career in the UN.
  • January 9, 2019 Doctoral course Education symposium
    On Wednesday January 9th 2019, the Doctoral course Education symposium was held in the Noyori conference hall on Higashiyama campus. Participants from both inside and outside Nagoya University heard about the progress of current and future graduate programs across all schools. One session focused on student presentations from Leading Graduate Programs. Representing the Well-being program, Tomomi Hasegawa (D1 AGR) gave a presentation on the links between Well-being and Agriculture.   • December 26, 2018 Pre-fieldwork Presentation of Overseas Training Program 1
    On Wednesday December 26th 2018 a pre-fieldwork presentation session for the 5th batch Well-being students Overseas training 1, was held in the Science and Agriculture building, room 329. Opening and closing remarks were given by Professor Hiroko Tsukamura (AGR) and Designated Assistant Professor Nicola Skoulding (AGR) moderated the session. Presentations were given by the 5 students going to the Philippines in January 2019. Each student presented for 5 minutes about their interests what they hoped to achieve during their visit. After each presentation, audience members gave comments and asked questions.Photo Gallery

    Dr. Akinari HOSHINO (International Education & Exchange Center, Nagoya University)
    The final lecture of Global Leader 1 this year was "Safety and Risk Management during studying abroad". The lecturer was Dr. Akinari Hoshino at the International Education & Exchange Center, Nagoya University, and he explained details about the importance of risk management with taking their overseas field training into consideration. Total 9 graduate students (the Graduate School of Bio-agriculture science, International Development, and Health Science) have joined with discussion and reconfirmed the importance of the risk management.

    Ms. Mayumi Katsube(Board Director/Executiv00e Director JOICFP)
    The third lecture of Global Leaders 3 series was given by Ms. Mayumi Katsube, Board Director/Executive Director, Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) on December 5, 2018. The lecture was given on the title of “Working with NGO for protecting health and life of women”. Ms. Katsube explained the current health situation of women and children in the world. With the introduction of her own experiences, she discussed about “working with NGO”.

  • November 28, 2018 English workshop (2-1)  "interview skills"
    An English workshop entitled 'English interview skills' was held on November 28th on Daiko campus. These sessions were led by Designated Assistant Professor Nicola Skoulding (AGR). In this workshop, students learnt about international style interviews, the types of questions asked and what kinds of answers are expected. Students were able to practice questions and received advice about answers they could give in for interview success.

    On November 14, 2018, the second lecture of Global Leaders 3 series was given by Ms. Kyoko Maekawa, the Deputy Secretary General of “Mura no Mirai”, with the tile of “My Career with NGO: Why Global AND Grassroots-based Career is So Interesting?”. The lecturer discussed about the sustainable development of rural area with her own experiences for working at NGO. This topic aroused significant interest from the students who attended the lecture.

  • November 9-10, 2018 Cross-Cultural Talk 2018
    (Special Lecture on Multicultural Societies)
    In 9-10. November, the Cross Cultural Talk has been held at Center for Asian Legal Exchange (CALE),Higashiyama Campus. This year's main theme was "Integration of learning experience in Well-being Program - Toward sustainable society-". As the first day program, it started by the opening remarks from Prof. Tsukamura, Program coordinator of the Well-being program, and ice-break session was managed by 2rd batch students. Afterwards, Poster session has been held. All students made their posters concerning the relation between their own research and Well-being. They move around the floor with groups and got explanation and discussion. Finally, a special lecture by Dr. Mari NAGAI (National Center for Global Health and Medicine) has been held. In the second day, they got group discussion that they exchanged and integrated their experiences of the Overseas Field Trip and reconsidered what is the well-being in Asia. Photo Gallery

  • November 1, 2018 English workshop (1st)
    On Thursday November 1st 2018, an English workshop entitled ‘Cover letters, CV’s and Resumes’ was held in SA 128 Higashiyama campus. The session was led by Designated Assistant Professor Nicola Skoulding (AGR). In this workshop, students learnt about international style CV’s, resumes and cover letters. Students were given advice about what to write in these documents and how to match them to an international job position.
  • October 31, 2018 Global Leader 1: Dr. Akiko Yoshida (Konica Minolta)
    Dr Akiko Yoshida, Senior Manager, Konica Minolta, lectured graduate students on her research of computer science field in the Max-Planck Institute, research and development of “Aquos” in an R&D department of Sharp, and jobs as a senior manager in Konica Minolta. She also explained the job and research in companies for PhD, jobs and roles of the PhD holder in the R&D department and in a service department. She also answered and discussed with various points and questions.

    Dr. Suomi Sakai (Former UNICEF Principal Advisor, Ethics)
    On October 10, 2018, the first lecture of the Global Leader 3 series was given by Dr. Suomi Sakai, a former UNICEF Principal Advisor, Ethics, under the title of “Leadership and Integrity” at the first meeting room of the Graduate School of International Development. The students actively participated in the discussion on “leadership” as well as “how to be a leader” throughout the lecture.

Professor Akira Yamauchi tell about the aim and outline of Overseas Training Program Seminar 1. And Designated Assistant Professor Wakabayashi explained about schedule of Overseas Training Program 1 (in Philippines).

    The 2018 enrollment ceremony was held at the Noyori Conference Hall where 5 fifth batch students were enrolled into the Well-being program. Dr. Seiichi Matsuo, President of Nagoya University and Dr. Masahide Takahashi, Program manager both delivered speeches and Dr. Hiroko Tsukamura, Program coordinator, handed the enrollment certificates to each student. Afterwards there were speeches from a new students and messages of encouragement from current Well-being students to the new students.Photo Gallery
  • September 20, 2018 Report session on Internship Experiences at FAO
  • July 22-29, 2018 Overseas Training Program 2 (Vietnam)
    Overseas Training Program 2 to Vietnam has been held from 22. to 29. July, 2018. The group consisted of 6 students of 1st (from Health science) and 3rd batch (3 from GSID, 1 from Bioagriculture, 1 from Education). With coordinated by Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), students visited paddy field, vegetable garden, longan orchard, pot flower garden, poultry farm, pig farm, milk gather station near from Hanoi. At the last day, students have made a final presentation about their findings on agriculture, education and health services at VNUA and discussed with faculties and students there.Photo Gallery

  • July 12, 2018 Pre-fieldwork Presentation of Overseas Training Program 2
    On Thursday July 12th 2018 a pre-departure presentation session for the 3rd batch Well-being students Overseas training program 2, was held in Bioagricultural sciences lecture room 6. Opening and closing remarks were given by Professor Hiroko Tsukamura (AGR) and Designated Assistant Professor Nicola Skoulding (AGR) moderated the session. Presentations were given firstly by the students going to Vietnam, followed by the students going to Malaysia, for trips to be held in July 2018*. The students presented about their research interests and what they hoped to achieve during their visit. After each presentation, audience members gave comments and asked questions.
    *The Malaysia trip was postponed to January 2019 due to a Typhoon.

  • July 4, 2018 Global Leader 2(3rd Lecture)
    The 3rd lecture of Global Leader 2 was given in Lecture Room 8, in the school of Agricultural Sciences on the 4th. July, 2018. Prof. Hiroko Tsukamura (Professor in the Graduate school of the Bioagricultural sciences, the Wellbeing program coordinator and Director of the Gender equality center, Nagoya University) gave a lecture entitled "Leadership Seminar: To improve your confidence!”. This lecture and workshop was only for Wellbeing students. Professor Tsukamura gave the students guidance and advice in how to become a great leader in the future. After her lecture, she gave a workshop entitled “How to improve your confidence!” Students made pairs and asked each other to tell them about their strengths, writing them on post it notes. Afterwards students presented their strengths as told by their classmates and discussed what they found surprising about the results. Many students were surprised at the results and felt much more confident after the workshop. Photo Gallery

    A Global leader 2 lecture (day 2) was given on the 6th of June by Dr. Mana Kano-Nakata, a Designated Assistant Professor from the Graduate school of Bioagricultural sciences. Dr. Nakata told students about her research career and life as a working mother of 3 young children. She introduced students to several initiatives and events at Nagoya University to support working mothers. She shared her experiences and gave them great advice in how to manage family and work life. During the discussion, Dr Nakata asked students about their priorities with regards to either career or family. Students had many different opinions given the diverse family backgrounds and cultures present. Then students were asked about what skills they had which would make them great leaders and there was some agreement about the skills that leaders need. Photo Gallery

  • April 4, 2018 Post-fieldwork Presentation (Overseas Training Program 1 & 2)
    The Post-fieldwork Presentation (Overseas Training Program 1 and 2) for fieldwork held in January and February of 2018, was held on Wednesday April 4th, 2018. Prof. Hiroko Tsukamura (AGR) gave opening remarks for the session. During the session, groups presented their findings, experiences and impressions from trips to Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia, and Indonesia for OTP1 and Cambodia for OTP2. Interestingly, students who visited Myanmar gave their presentation wearing traditional Myanmar dress. Faculty and students actively asked questions about the findings from each trip and students received advice on the analysis of data that they collected.
