Chikako Takase (Ms.) assumed the current position in February 2012 after serving as Acting Director since 13 March 2011. Prior to coming to UNCRD, she served as Deputy Chief of the Policy Coordination Branch, Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, UN DESA. She joined the UN in 1984 as Associate Economic Affairs Officer working on medium-term forecasting of the world economy at Department of International Economic and Social Affairs (currently DESA), then worked on the World Economic Survey, before joining the Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), Department of Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development (currently DESA). She holds M.A. in Development Economics from the University of Sussex, UK.
